Core biopsy

When you are doing a core biopsy of a mass or especially a lymph node that might be lymphoma, you must get at least one extra core to be sent in saline (with the other cores in formalin) and specify on the pathology requisition that the core in saline (Marked as such on the container) is for flow cytometry.

The path department can subtype many of the lymphomas by the flow cytometry and spare the patient a surgical biopsy.
