Hi Ronel

40 years is long time. The Israelites spent this time in the desert and one can see why. Their mentality was that of a ?slave nation? and it needed this period to mature, refine and prepare them for entry into the Promised Land.

We are all different now but still hold dear the values of Hebrew, Zionism and Yiddishkeit that were imparted to us so many years ago. These aspects were comfortably integrated with secular studies and sport in an excellent co-ed environment.

After experiencing having children of our own and the difficulties in finding the ideal school environment for them around the world, do we appreciate the unique privilege we enjoyed by being at King David.

Curiosity would tempt many ex-Davidians to follow up on the Face Book site and possibly rekindle old friendships.

Wishing you all the best in your preparations for September

Regards

Hi Terry

I had a good perusal of photos and anecdotes from the past. Those were excellent formative years and I believe that all those pupils who made it into the sports teams not only left their mark at the school, but made a success of their lives.

It required energy of mind and spirit (and some talent), but more of the former.

When I see those photos, the memories and emotions flood back, like a distant tsunami. Then after it hits you with its legendary force, and you take that first gasp of air, you wonder how things could have been different.

My only regret is that I did not participate more, tried out for every team, thrown myself into the rambustious camaraderie, taken the knocks with the triumphs and developed a stronger connection with my peers.

Thanks again for passing on the info to this site. It?s a ?living? album, which has the ability to grow like any organism.

It?s a genuine regret. I had a few good mates who went to Northview and Sandringham High Schools and I spent more time with them extracurricularly, but I could have made a stronger effort with scholastic achievements. I guess I rebelled immaturely and was a little lazy.

Be that as it may?a brief summary follows:

The rebellious phase lasted until the end of 1970.

1976 ?qualified with a Wits Dental Degree

1977?Dental Officer in SADF.

1978?sowing wild oats in Cape Town, fond memories of Errol Gordon and David Hendler

1980?practised from Southdale base.

1983?married Suzanne.

1986?Aimee-lee was born.

1989?Matthew was born.

1994?political pressure to abandon South Africa, sat the NZ registration exams, as New Zealand was the most attractive destination at the time.

1995?finalising the arrangements for the relocation, as many will attest- no easy matter.

1996?Arrived in Auckland with much hope and anticipation?-assistance from Brian and Vivienne Rosenburg, and a warm reception from Terry and Rhona Levenberg.

Presently run a solo practice on the North Shore.

The ties with Jhb are still strong as I have my mother and two sisters and their families living there. About three years ago met up with Eric Stillerman in Lyndhust again?his mischievous spark and enthusiasm forever present.

Appropriate photos to follow.

Regards

Raymond
