I was born in Standerton on the 14^th October 1951 and attended primary school there. Had a wonderful childhood growing up in a small country town, riding our bicycles to school (there were only 100 or so pupils), going down to the vaal river every weekend to go boating or swimming. An idyllic beginning. And then the problem began when we had to go to High School. There was no English high school in Standerton. My parents decided to send us to King David. My sister?s and I were very lucky that we were able to board with my mom?s sister instead of at the dreaded Herber House in those days. I remember my first day at King David to be the scariest day of my life coming from a tiny school of 100 pupils to this monster of a place with almost 1,000 pupils, wow! It took me a while to settle in, but luckily I made friends very quickly and settled into life in Johannesburg.

I was quite a shy child and did not socialize very much after school hours. Went to work for the ?Jewish Herald? newspaper after school. Met my husband Martin Kaye at home movies (Sunday nights) and we married in October 1971. We have 3 wonderful children, Russell born 1^st January 1973. Russell is married to Ilana, they have 3 children  aged 8, 6 and 3 and they live in Modi?in, Israel. Jonathan born 14^th April 1975 is married to a Cape Town girl, Sybil, they have a little girl named Milla and they live in Cape Town and our daughter Michelle was born 24^th February 1979, she is a Travel Consultant lives in Johannesburg. All our children went to King David from Nursery school till matric. None of my children have inherited my cleft chin unfortunately but my great nieces have.

I have been helping my husband in his Dental practice  for the last 20 years, doing his accounts and generally running his office.

Fifteen years ago my whole family did a scuba diving course and got totally hooked. I used to go with them on their diving trips and started feeling very out of things when they came up from a dive and started talking about what they had experienced. I decided to do the course as well. As terrified as I was of water (during swimming lessons at school, I always told Rhona Rimer that I had my period) I managed to find the most wonderful patient and caring instructor. She herself had been terrified and had to get used to wetting her face in the bath before she started her course, so she sympathized with me and together we got through the course and I qualified as a scuba diver. I have never looked back. I even went on to do my advanced course so that I could go deeper with my husband on the dives. What a wonderful world it is down there. We have travelled and dived all over world and love every minute of it. Unfortunately I am suffering very badly with debilitating arthritis down my spine and it looks like my diving days are slowly coming to an end, but it has been fun. I will keep at it as long as I can!

My other hobby is playing bridge. I play a lot of it and as much as possible. My husband also plays and it is so nice to share hobbies together. We never fight at the bridge table!

I also travel to Israel a lot, I try to go every 3 to 4 months. I miss my grandchildren very much, they have been gone for 2 years now and I was very very involved in their lives when they lived here. I feel very at home when I am there, even hire my own car and a gps and go all over the place when the kids are at school and my children are at work. Then when back in SA I have to be fair so I am off to Cape Town as well to see the other children, so you can see, I keep very busy.

Thank you for bringing us all together again Ashley, it is so interesting to read all about everyone even tho? I can?t remember some of the people or even recognize them.
