Biography

After school. Hilton Waselewsky and I went into the army together and spent 9-3 montshs at Lenz, just iutside JHB. As a result of us getting special leave to rewrite sups, and both getting substantially worse marks than we got for matric, we were supposedly punnished and sent to a little supply town, Grootfontein in South West Africa.
Went to Wits to do Mech Eng. Was only there for a short time as I prefered racing my car against Julian Aires and Michael Katz when I should have been studying.
Then enrolled and completed a tecnical course at the JHB technicon afterwhich I became an aprentice toolmaker and worked on a factory floor, not to dissimilar to what Terry did. Difference being that it was a family business where I remained and eventually became MD 25 years later.
We sold the business in July 07 and I am looking for new business opportunities where I can invest some capital and experience and derive benefit from younger and technically smarter individuals who can do all the hard work.
I married Ingrid in 1976, we have 3 amazing children, Justine who is 30, married to an orthodox rabbi who have 2 girls. My son Ricky is an Electrical Engineer, living in Israel with his wife and son, where he has just got his smicha from a world renowned Israel Rabbi. By the way for those of you who dont know the previous Lubavicher Rabbi was also an Electrical Engineer, so who knows where Ricky will end up one day. My youngest, Taryn returned from a years religous study programme in Israel and is now doing fashion design here in Rosebank and loving it.
As for me, Im the President of the Sydenham Highlands North Shul and have been for the last 10 years. Im also the National Chairman of what we call here the IUA (Israel United Appeal) and as such I visit Israel at least 3 times a year.Finally, I play a role in local Jewish affairs and spend a lot of time trying to ensure that we as SA Jews are as well looked after as possible.
All in all as you can imagine from what Ive told you about my family,we live a very traditional orthodox lifestyle, come together for Shabbosim and have lots of good quality time together.Our house is a very open one and there is hardly a time when we dont have visitors staying with us. If and when you are visiting or passing through Johannesburg, subject to the availability of rooms, youre all welcome, to come and experiencing home hospitality at whats been termed (by others) ?Gold Seeff City? named appropriately so after a Casino close to Soweto called Gold Reef City.Ingrid has and still remains inexplicably linked and involved in the Jewish community, in fact we met when she was the secretary of the Shul. She is an events co ordinator, does amazing creative work and spends lots of her time doing this with little or no payment for charities and organisations, just for the love of helping others.

Forgot to mention, one of the most important things and that is that my 3 children all completed their schooling at King David High, which remains a very good school. Today it sadly lacks the control and discipline that ?Boss?, Norman Sandler instilled in this amazing institution.
