Definition
The subtthalamus is a cvomponent of the diencephalon and part of the group of structures loosely associated with the thalamus. Its major structure is the subthalamic nucleus which is a lens shaped structure functionally linked to the basal ganglia. It is situated anterior to the thalamusposterior to the substantia nigra and medial to the internal capsule.
