Definition

Structure

The middle temporal gyrus is placed between the superior and middle temporal sulci. Posteriorly, it communicates with the angular gyrus and with the second occipital gyrus.

Its cortical thickness is greater; granular cells are less abundant. Layer I is wider.

Function

It is an associational cortical area that analyses visual signals related to object form and motion.
