Definition

The anterior commissure is a bundle of axons that connect the hemispheres in one location across the middle of the brain. It connects the temporal lobes and also crossed olfactory fibers.

Diagnosis utilizes neuroimaging tests.

Disease in the anterior commissure impairs olfactory and auditory interhemispheric transfer.

Treatment of anterior commissure dysfunction consists of surgery and radiation.
