Spalding Sign
refers to the overlapping of the fetal skull bones caused by collapse of the fetal brain. It was initially described by Dr Alfred Spalding as a sign of fetal demise on an abdominal radiograph. In the modern era it is a sign on obstetric ultrasound and appears a week or more after fetal death in utero.
