Interstitial Lung Disease and Squamous Cell Carcinoma

The CT is from an 82 year old male with interstitial lung disease who developed a peripheral lung cancer within the reticular disease in the periphery of the lung. The interstitial disease is highlighted and magnified in image b and the mass among the interstitial disease in the left upper lung is shown in c. In this instance, the pathology showed squamous cell carcinoma, which is the type usually associated with chronic irritation.
